Renewables…a new saviour for climate and human health and conquering the destruction done by fossil fuel soot
Sometimes the conventional belief transforms into a new ideology. One ethical research has isolated the effects of fossil fuel soot on global warming. Soot comes into existence due to the combustion of jet fuel, diesel, etc. One eminent type is commonly known as Black carbon, and the other one is known as Brown Carbon.
The research focuses on the impacts of these pollutants on the global climate. This revolutionary research is conducted by Mr. Mark Jacobson (Director of Atmosphere/Energy Program and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University).
Some shocking facts of the research
After CO2, soot is the second largest reason for global warming.
- Soot severely affects the lives of people around the globe. Such particles have affected the lives of more than 7 million people globally.
- The research data indicates that restricting soot is not only constructive for the climate but the harmony of human health as well.
Renewable energy…new dawn of climatic prosperity
The research evaluated the advantages of transforming into renewable energy for the betterment of human health and climate. We came to know that in terms of air pollution, entire energy – used in industry, transportation, construction, and electricity – accounts for 70% global warming and 90% air pollution.
We can make up for these losses by transforming them into renewable energies.
Why do we require renewable energy?
The benefits are enormous. Some of them are mentioned underneath-
- For restricting the combustion of fossil fuel. Helps in prohibiting emissions from residential energy usage, industry usage, and power generation, etc.
- Fossil fuel is the reason for the mortality of more than 7 million people every year due to cancer and heart disease etc. It is also responsible for huge amounts of green gas emissions. Therefore, we require renewable energy.
- To improve the life expectancy rate globally.
- To empower climatic harmony.
What is the way of transitioning to renewable energies?
It’s a million-dollar question. The transition should be within reach and should be practically possible. This research has also formulated plans for countries and that doesn’t need any combustion. Some of thee plans are-
-Tidal and wave power
-Solar power
-On-shore and off-shore wind etc.
Though, India has a serious issue in this regard. Large amounts of indoor usage of biofuels for cooking and heating is one of the main issues. This indoor and outdoor pollution becomes the reason for so many premature mortalities every year.
The ideal way of restricting such losses is to discontinue fossil fuels. The transition path is enriched with plenty of benefits. There are no such economic barriers or cost reasons to impede the transitioning. Solar and wind power are the most inexpensive forms of electricity anywhere around the world. Hampering the transitioning into renewables is not economic or technical, it is political and social.
We need to relinquish the old fossil fuel plants at a faster pace. The philosophical transition should also take place by the governing authorities.
The right perception is needed for the transition
Governing authorities are still investing in technologies that are not helping the cause by any means. Therefore, the right shift in perception is expected. The same investment can be made for initiating the base for the renewables. Governing authorities should motivate-
-Electrifying transport and vehicles.
-Usage of electric conduction cooking stuff rather than the fuel-based cooking stove.
-Usage of the electric furnace in different industries.
-Power storage through hydrogen, cold, and heat storage.
-Using smarter energy solutions like LED bulbs rather than conventional bulbs.
Final words
Transitioning is not rocket science. We can easily embrace it for the betterment of human health and climate. We just require using energy-efficient appliances. A small step can make a big impact. India has solar power with hydro and wind energy. If they were incorporated with energy-efficiency and intervention of demand response, then the transforming into renewables could be done with ease. We must take initiative as it’s our responsibility as well.
